Maren has been incredible with helping to facilitate our transfer team which is no easy task. It is physically demanding in a very fast paced environment. Yet somehow, she always seems to be smiling with ease. Just look at any picture we’ve got of her and you can see her beautiful smile. Let’s here from Maren herself:
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Hi, I’m Maren Tekieli! I grew up in Germany and came to Hawaii 5 years ago. In my free time I love to surf, hike, and read.
How did you get started with AccesSurf?
I first volunteered at the HASC 2019 through a work volunteer day. The energy at the competition was so uplifting that it left me counting down the days until the next Day at the Beach event.
What does AccesSurf mean to you?
AccesSurf is a true community. When I moved to Hawaii, I only knew my husband and his side of the family, having left my own friends and family behind in Europe.
It took me a while to feel a sense of belonging in my new home but everyone at AccesSurf made me feel welcome from the very first second.
What is your favorite AccesSurf memory?
Returning to the 2022 HASC and seeing that the adaptive surfing community is growing!
Anything you want to share with our AccesSurf ‘ohana?
Thank you to all the participants, volunteers, AccesSurf staff, and community sponsors who make the AccesSurf events happen. They are for sure my favorite part of every month.
