Tell us about yourself

I moved to New York from Mexico in 2009 as an international student and later joined the US Army in 2014. For nine years, I worked as a Behavioral Health Specialist in the Department of Defense. I’ve been practicing yoga since I was 12, and since then, I have developed a strong connection with yoga, meditation, wellness activities, and being surrounded by nature. Helping others thrive through Wellness Coaching brings me joy. I’ve also started my own business, Khushi Holistic Wellness, to support trauma healing and post-traumatic growth in the military community.

How did you get started with AccesSurf?

I learned about Access Surf through a friend in 2023. I initially joined as a participant and later became a monthly donor after realizing the impact of Access Surf’s mission.

What does AccesSurf mean to you?

Access Surf is an invitation to show up differently in the world. Surfing holds much meaning; it requires trust in the team assisting you on land and in the water, trust in yourself, courage to stand up, and resilience to keep trying wave after wave. Knowing that every time you show up, it will be different, but knowing that I don’t have to do it alone and that I am supported by a team that genuinely cares means a lot.

What is your favorite AccesSurf memory?

Participating in HI Surf Rescue stands out as my favorite memory. Not only was being part of the show cool, but I also had the opportunity to interact with the Access Surf team and other participants for a whole day. I learned so much about them and made new friends.

Anything you want to say or share with our AccesSurf ‘ohana?

My dream of surfing came true and is still ongoing, thanks to all of you! I experience internal fireworks every time I’m out there in the ocean.
