Six years ago Marie Prioleaulewis saw a commercial running for AccesSurf while she was in her hospital room. She had been in her chair for 31 years at that point. She did everything she could to find out more about the program she saw mentioned on the commercial, and eventually participated in her first Day at the Beach. For her, it was immediate – “My first AccesSurf event I was just like, Hallelujah!”
Being in the water is freedom, I’m not tied to my chair”
Six years later, there is hardly a Day at the Beach, Swim Clinic, or other special event that she is not a part of. For her the freedom she feels in the water, plus the warmth and support of our volunteers keeps her coming back. “The volunteers are always helpful, without making you feel like a burden.”
