Tell us a little about yourselves
We are Rebecca and Addison Schussler, We are originally from Missouri but have called Hawaii home for nearly 8 years now. We lived 3 years on the Big Island and almost 5 years on Oahu. Addison enjoys robotics and has participated in many cool STEM opportunities with her school’s Robotics Team. I enjoy volunteering, days at the beach with friends and family, travel, and trying new foods and a yummy cocktail.
How did you get started with Accessurf
We first heard of Accessurf through my work, Southwest Airlines, who is a sponsor of Accessurf. Our first event was the first DATB back after COVID in 2021, It was at Kualoa, it was magical, and we were hooked!
What does AccesSurf mean to you?
We fell in love with the community after our very first event and I think that is what makes Accessurf so special, the people. Accessurf is full of people who care for others, want to have a good time, are accepting, open, patient, kind, unstoppable, endlessly positive, the list goes on and on. The Accessurf Ohana is one of the most beautiful communities and we are so lucky to be a part of it.
Can you share your favorite AccesSurf memory
Every DATB circle when we end our announcement with connecting arm in arm or hand in hand and breathing together. I always get chicken skin and teary-eyed. Coming together with friends and strangers to just appreciate what this morning means, this beautiful island we call home, the sunshine, the ocean, the community that lifts others up, just people taking a minute to connect and give thanks for it all.
Anything you want to say or share with our AccesSurf ‘ohana?
Thank you for welcoming us, loving us, and sharing your Days At The Beach with us. These Saturdays together have made this island feel like home. This month will sadly be our last DATB (for now) as we move off-island to Dallas, TX for our next adventure. We plan to come back and visit so it’s not a farewell just a hui hou.
