With this year being our 15th Anniversary, we reflect upon all of the people who have shaped AccesSurf since the beginning and continue to share their dedication, love and support. Nate Carl is one of those people!
Not only has he been a program volunteer, his videos have been capturing AccesSurf for many years and have been instrumental in helping us share to the world what we do.
Check out his work at FREEDOMEDIA!
1. Tell us a little about yourself!
Nate from Virginia Beach, moved to Hawaii with the US Navy back in 2004. Owner of Freedom Media.
2. How and when did you start with Accessurf?
A volunteer opportunity through a friend when Accessurf was 1st starting out and absolutely loved every single second. I truly believed in what they were doing and dedicated many hours shooting photos/video to help further the organization.
3. What does AccesSurf mean to you?
Inspirational because all around it inspires both participants and volunteers alike with the power of the ocean, overcoming fears and challenges, being others minded and experiencing such tremendous amounts of joy with both friends and newcomers.
4. Can you recall your favorite AccesSurf memory?
So many but many years ago surfing with Abigail during the Dukes Fest and the surf was absolutely pumping 3-4′ We got pitched on our very 1st wave, the worst wipeout she’s ever had and I ever had with a participant but she was super tough and said to paddle back out where we had the biggest and most perfect waves we’ve ever had to this day during an event.
5. Anything you want to say to our AccesSurf ‘ohana?
Thank you to everyone involved, both participants and the countless volunteers that make Accessurf one loving ‘ohana
